I just want to give props to Portland Streetcar’s real time location maps. I regularly use the arrival time predictors for both going to and coming home from work, but the realtime view saved my bacon this morning.

I had left something on the train when I got off at my workstop and realized it the moment I sat at my desk. Remembering that it was the “green” train, I pulled up the map, and took a guess at where that train was. Seeing as my work stop is close to one end of the loop, I was able to determine how long until it would be back at that same stop.

Made a quick call to Lost and Found, then hustled back out to the stop.

A few minutes later, the “green” train pulls up and sure enough, the lost article was there. Total freakout time reduced to about 20 minutes.

So, thanks Portland Streetcar. Between Fareless Square and an awesome integration with real time technologies, my daily commute is effortless.
