Another Season, Another Mix Tape

A couple of months have gone by, and its time for me to compile the tracks that have found a way to stick around here in the lab. Just in time for Halloween, here is the MixDLT where we keep the hot side hot and the cool side cool. (In retrospect, had I known I would have finished these today, I may have gone for “Trick or Treat”).

In reality, the Hot side is filled with squelchy bits and rumbly bits, while the Cool side is Late Night Makeout Disco™

Last Night – A Summer Mixtape

I made a mixtape for you. Well, not you, but the rest of you.

The flow follows a night out for me. Starts off a little slow and cheesy, then gets kind of electro, frenetic, and mashed up, and then finally ends up on a slower tip.

Tracklisting

  1. Magic – DJ Agent 86
  2. Static – So I’m Jo
  3. A Cause Des Garçons – Yelle
  4. Fixin The Thrill (Villians remix) – Dragonette
  5. Remedy (Crimes Against Disco remix) – Little Boots
  6. Groove Is In The Girls – Dunproofin’
  7. Phantom On The Bottom – DJ Paul V.
  8. Intergalactic Human – DJ Earworm
  9. Insight Tricks – Zenit Incompatible
  10. Diskow Heartbeat – Celebrity Murder Party
  11. Hanging On The Fax Preset – GaraGara
  12. Tell Me – Panic Girl
  13. Pearl’s Dream (team9 remix) – Bat For Lashes
  14. I Like Watching You (Diamond Cut remix) – Cinnamon Chasers
  15. I Can’t Tell You Why (revised) – Chromeo

Childhood Mystery Solved

The end credits for WKRP In Cincinnati contained a song whose lyrics were shrouded in mystery. Analyzed as much as Hotel California or American Pie, scholars thought the true meaning would be lost to the ages.

Until now.

Upcoming Concerts

Its time once again to mentally round up the shows that are coming up in the next few weeks here in the Portland area.

Saturday 9/27 – The Prids are the openers for A Place to Bury Strangers at The Doug Fir. I’m surprised that they are still listed given their near fatal accident earlier this year.

Monday 9/29 – Mission Of Burma at Doug Fir. Saw them here last time and it was a great show.

Tuesday 9/30 – Monotonix and Silver Jews at Wonder. People were raving about their MFNW show at Satyricon.

Thursday 10/02 – Dan Le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip at Doug Fir. They were awesome at Coachella this year. A must see show.

Sunday 10/05 – The Dandy Warhols and The Upsidedown at The Roseland. Have to go and say hi to the kids after they return from a national tour.

Monday 10/06 – Sigur Ros at The Schnitz. Heard tickets were going for outrageous prices. Might have to skip it.

Thursday 10/09 – Weezer! and Tokyo Police Club! at the Coliseum? :(

plus coming soon The Rumble Strips, Sisters of Mercy, and Ogre…

MusicFestNW

so, yeah, we went. most of my reviews, though, were through email, so I didnt capture anything here.

fortunately for me, my friend April just put up her reviews. We did nearly the same itinerary, and mostly the same views, so think of this as an Off By One Review.

Read it here at Aprilade.

edit: update link to April’s new url

Busy Little (Portland) Beavers

Lots of stuff coming up in the next week or three. I can’t say that I am going to hit up all of these events, but they are definitely poking at my little brain.

Thursday (7/24) – Portland Timbers home game vs. Carolina RailHawks.

Friday (7/25) Either group outing to the Drive-In or DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist at Roseland (probably drive in – havent been to one in forever!)

Saturday (7/26) Girl Talk at Roseland. This show should be super fun. The Feed The Animals album is great. Listening to Girl Talk Murders Seattle – Live at Chop Suey gives me great hope for this show. (psst – follow the Feed The Animals link and you can download it for free/name your own price).

Sunday (7/27) Chromeo at Berbati’s Pan. May be too tuckered out for this show, considering I just saw them at Coachella.

Saturday and Sunday (7/26/727) Oregeon Brewer’s Fest at the Waterfront

Monday (7/28) Weekly bar trivia at Chez Jose (eastside). Will Sparklemotion return to dominance, or is this the week apathy totally kills us off.

Thursday (7/31) Last Thursday in NE.

Saturday (8/2) Red Bull Flugtag at Waterfront Park.

Saturday and Sunday (8/2/83) Bones and Brew in the Pearl

Sunday (8/10) Providence Bridge Pedal. Our crew has decided to do the 8 bridge/24 mile route. Unless someone signed us up for the 11 bridge/37 mile route. Better step up my daily rides.

(errata: wrote this using MarsEdit to see if I like blogging from a desktop client as opposed to just using the web)

edit: added beerfest and bbq
