Doctor Who

So, season 4 (or as the brits would say series 4) is underway, and after the goofy first episode, its getting back into the groove of aliens and what not.

My question is: When did the Doctor agree to have an overweight tranny fishmonger’s wife as a companion? Maybe this is a reflection on British taste? Maybe they like looking at a shrill sea donkey for 50 minutes every week?

Hell, after seeing who was elected Miss Surrey, I am inclined to believe it.

C’mon – resurrect Kylie Minogue’s character from the Christmas Special, throw Noble into some SpacePitâ„¢, and let’s look forward to series 5. Heck, I would settle for the muppet-mouthed Rose to come back.

Kids are retarded

Crayola has introduced their new 64 count box of crayons, and have included 8 new Kids Choice colors. Now, obviously, there aren’t more colors – they’e simply switched some of the names around.

According to the news accounts, the new color names come from over 20,000 kids who “went online to offer suggestions”. When you see the list, you’ll be in favor of online filters for kids – especially when it comes to giving them a voice in product creation.

And here they are:

  • Laser Lemon -> Super Happy
  • Wild Tangerine -> Fun In The Sun
  • Screamin’ Green -> Giving Tree
  • Beaver -> Bear Hug
  • Turquiose Blue -> Happy Ever After
  • Hot Magenta -> Famous
  • Orchid -> Best Friends
  • Wild Watermelon -> Awesome

Seriously? I have a problem even accepting that kids are this stupid. More than likely, some feel good bullshit human rights group got together and flooded some online poll.

And think of all the opportunities for misunderstandings. “Hey could you pass me the Super Happy?”. Around my friends, this wouldn’t be a yellow crayon.

Bring back Flesh and Indian Red!

Tonight – Meat Beat Manifesto

W00t! It has been probably close to 20 years since I saw them last at a little place off Hollywood Blvd. I think it was Dale from the Scream running the night. After the show, Jack Dangers and her were arguing over getting paid. Now, this is where the haze of time clouds the memories. If I remember correctly, there was a scuffle and a knife was shown. The person I was there with was “friends” with the promoter and eventually even mediated a calm solution to the situation.

Good times!

So tonight, lets relive them! Berbati’s Pan – 9:30pm – See you there!

Startup Woes

How long would you work at a job without getting paid?

I currently work for a startup that is going through liquidity issues. We have a large amount of investment capital – however it currently is in bonds and getting a fair market price for it is difficult

I love what I do. I love the people I work with. I own a piece of the company (not options – actual ownership) but at some point the rent has to get paid.

Sparklemotion – Results

At the last minute we decided to head down with an abbreviated team. Took 2nd place (or as Dad would say – first losers…). Was a spirited competition with 1st through 3rd separated by one point each. We blame it on zero tequilla shots and missing two team members.

But Sparklemotion is back… other teams should fear next monday.

Sparklemotion

We may or may not make it to bar trivia tonight. In case you didn’t know, there is a basketball game on tonight. It all depends on the score. If it looks to be a blowout, we may skip the end and get our herradurra and trivia on. Given the fact that UCLA is out of it, a blowout might be a 6 point lead with 18 minutes to go. ;)

If not, we will be back at Chez Jose next week – picking up the pieces from our 4th place finish last week.

What a difference a day makes

Phew. Good thing I made it up yesterday. Today, its snowing at Timberline and the temp is 22 degrees, a full 20 degree drop from yesterday. I guess Spring Skiing hasn’t quite got a toehold on the Cascades yet :)

(below are some weather cam pics to contrast with mine from yesterday)

Spring Skiing is Fan-Freaking-Tastic

Played hooky for a bit today and hit Timberline for some perfect weather skiing. Sky was blue, temperature was about 42 degrees, and the lift lines were non-existent. The great thing about days like today are that 3 hours on the hill, for me, is perfect. Other than sitting on the chair, its pretty much non-stop action.

Another nice plus was the ability to go with just my polarized glasses instead of goggles – plus no hat.

WordPress Themes

Why are WordPress themes so cryptic and hard to manipulate. Now, its not like I’m a professional designer, but I do know a thing or two about CSS and the DOM, and it seems that the way the template engine works is completely ass backwards.

For now, I’ll stick with this simple color scheme. Maybe when I have time I can migrate my old space invaders web template to work with WP.

Next up – WP to MySpace cross posting…
